Alto-Shaam Exceeds Fundraising Target at Memorial Golf Event

Alto-Shaam welcomed 148 golfers from around the country to its Golf for a Cure charity event in memory of its late founder last week.

Held at The Bog in Saukville, Alto-Shaam’s charity golf event raised $74,400 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) – Upper Plains Region, meaning more than $1 million has now been raised by Alto-Shaam in 14 years of events and partnership with the local charity.

Donations from Alto-Shaam partners and employees totaled $37,200, with Alto-Shaam matching dollar-for-dollar to reach the collective donation.

“We’re grateful to have Alto-Shaam as a longstanding partner,” said Kortney Hamm, executive director of LLS Upper Plains Region. “Thanks to their continued support, LLS was able to stay focused on its lifesaving mission of funding blood cancer research and providing critical patient support. We were even able to create a COVID-19 financial aid to help patients with the dual economic toll of a cancer diagnosis and global pandemic.”

Alto-Shaam’s Founder Jerry Maahs passed away from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2006. The following year, the company organized its first golf event to raise funds for research aimed finding new treatments and cures for the blood disease.

“Coming together in memory of my father was very moving,” said Steve Maahs, Jerry’s son, and Alto-Shaam president and chief operating officer.  “Our global partners and employees united under a common goal of driving innovative blood cancer research forward for our community. It was a very impactful day focused on a lifesaving cause.”

Half of the event proceeds will be directed towards a research grant for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in Jerry’s name, which has paved the way for new curative therapies including immunotherapy. The other half will support one of the most urgent needs identified by LLS, pediatric blood cancer research and patient access, with the money being used to help identifying curing therapies and reduce long-term treatment complications for children.
