We had a great time at the 25th annual International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York, which took place from March 4 to 6 in Manhattan’s Javits Center. This famous convention center hosts influential events throughout the year, and they rely on an Alto-Shaam banqueting system for their catered meals. For the NY Restaurant show, Javits hosted more than 550 vendors, with live culinary demonstrations, competitions, and educational events. It was the best of the food industry, all under one roof.
The International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York is the only event in the Big Apple that serves the entire foodservice industry. Organized into themed areas like the Food Trends Experience (where visitors can learn about new cooking technology like our new Vector™ Multi-Cook Oven and industry trends) and the Pubware and Equipment Pavilion, there was so much to discover this year.
More than 16,000 people attended the three-day convention, participating in competitions like the mixology face-off and March Madness: A Meatball Competition. Meanwhile, the Education Program offered new workshops like “How to Become a Rockstar Restaurant” and the “Why Whiskey” tasting. Chefs, restauranteurs, Instagram foodies, and product designers all found something to love at the NY Restaurant show.
We also invited our close friend Charlie the Butcher to cook his famous “beef on weck” sandwiches, which are always a huge hit with show attendees. Three decades ago, Charlie attended a foodservice trade show and discovered the Alto-Shaam Cook & Hold Oven. He also befriended Alto-Shaam founder Jerry Maahs, which led to a lifelong relationship with the company. Today, Charlie the Butcher’s Kitchen relies on the Cook & Hold Oven for its roast beef, which cooks overnight until it becomes unbelievably juicy and tender.
This year, Alto-Shaam showcased our Vector Multi-Cook Ovens, with live product demos throughout the show. Designed with Structured Air Technology™, the Vector ovens (available in countertop and full-size models) allow you to cook up to four foods with distinct cooking times and temperatures. The independent oven chambers are perfect for any operation where you need to cook multiple food items at the same time.
We also showcased our plate retherm system designed to reduce labor and increase consistency and food quality when banqueting.
