Union City Area School District Receives School Nutrition Foundation Grant Recipient for New Alto-Shaam Holding Cabinet
The Union City Area School District in Pennsylvania has been named the recipient of the Alto-Sham Equipment Grant for a $9,000 holding cabinet, by The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF).
The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) has announced the recipients of its 2026 Equipment Grant Program, recognizing school nutrition professionals across the country for their commitment to enhancing meal programs for students.
As part of the 2026 program, SNF awarded the Alto-Shaam Equipment Grant to Krista Byler, Food Service Director for Union City Area School District in Pennsylvania. The grant includes a 1200-UP hot holding cabinet valued at $9,000, supporting the district’s efforts to strengthen its school nutrition program.
The SNF Equipment Grant program, launched in 2022, has provided critical support to school meal programs for five years, helping address staffing, budget and operational challenges while expanding fresh and scratch-made menu options and enhancing the cafeteria experience. Alto-Shaam is proud to participate as a grant sponsor for the second consecutive year.
Union City Area School District identified a need to enhance kitchen workflow and create additional space for meal preparation as their team continues to expand scratch-made offerings for students. Meals must be held at proper temperatures to ensure food safety and preserve quality, making reliable holding equipment an essential part of daily operations.
“Our kitchen staff have risen to the occasion and done a terrific job of preparing more scratch-made recipes to sample with students and add to the menu cycle. The new holding cabinet will free up valuable prep space in the kitchen and directly support our efforts to add more scratch options for students,” said Byler.
As the recipient of the Alto-Shaam Equipment Grant, Union City Area School District will receive the new holding cabinet to benefit program operations in the upcoming school year.
Alto-Shaam will also be attending the School Nutrition Association’s Annual National Conference this July at Booth #600, where team members will be available to connect with school nutrition professionals and share solutions designed to support school meal programs.
